Episode 14: Kenny Santucci – Reinvention After The Challenge: Discipline, Community & Small Wins

Some people chase a second act. Kenny Santucci built one—one small win at a time.

In this episode of The Breakthrough Collective, Traci Swain sits down with Kenny Santucci  3-time champion on MTVs The Challenge, Ironman finisher, founder of Strong New York, gym owner, and one of NYCs most recognizable voices in fitness and wellness.

This conversation goes deeper than workouts or fame. It’s about the identity shift that happens when you’re no longer the person people remember  and what it takes to rebuild your life with discipline, community, and purpose.

Kenny takes us back to Newark and Jersey roots: the overweight kid in an old-school Italian family, the teacher who called him fat, the years of feeling uncomfortable in his own skin  and the exact mirror moment that sparked a decision to change. From there, he shares how he navigated the transition from reality TV persona to respected fitness entrepreneur, why he never waited to be chosen, and how small daily wins became the foundation for everything he’s built.

If you’ve ever felt underestimated, overlooked, or like you had to build your own table, this episode is a reminder: reinvention is a practice  not a personality trait.

📌 Save this episode for the days you feel stuck between chapters. Kenny Santucci shares how discipline, community, and small daily wins helped him reinvent himself after MTV’s The Challenge—and build Strong New York from the ground up. Click to watch the full interview on YouTube.

About Kenny Santucci

Kenny Santucci is a New York City-based fitness professional and entrepreneur with over a decade in the health and wellness industry. He’s known to many as a 3-time champion on MTV’s The Challenge, but his story didn’t end when the cameras stopped rolling.

Kenny went from being an overweight teen who felt uncomfortable in his own skin to becoming a coach, athlete, and community builder — including completing an Ironman and building a career around helping people get stronger mentally and physically. He’s the founder of the Strong New York fitness festival, one of NYC’s premier wellness events and community-driven movement. He’s also owned and operated multiple gyms and training programs, including Solace New York and the Body by Solace HIIT program and is the founder of The Strength Club gyms.

Today, Kenny is also a sought-after trainer and brand partner working across fitness, media, and events. He’s trained high-profile clients while staying rooted in what he believes matters most: discipline, empathy, and building spaces where everyday people can win.

Breakthrough Lessons

1) Take care of the little things
Kenny’s throughline is simple: big outcomes are built through small, consistent choices.

Try this today: pick one “little thing” you can complete in under 10 minutes (a walk, one healthy meal, 10 pushups, a glass of water, a hard email). Finish it. Let that win be your proof.

2) Box breathing (a 5-minute nervous system reset)
When your mind is racing or you’re emotionally charged, Kenny’s go-to is simple: slow your breathing and let your body catch up.

Try this today: set a 2–5 minute timer. Inhale slowly, exhale slowly, and repeat until your shoulders drop and your thoughts slow down.

3) Stop preparing. Start doing.
Preparation can be a disguise for fear. Kenny’s reset is action-based: create a commitment that forces movement.

Try this today: sign up for something small but real (a 5K, a class, a session). Put money or a date on it.

4) Surround yourself with other brains
Kenny shares a modern truth: your mind works better when you’re not doing life alone.

Try this today: text one person who makes you feel more like yourself. Ask for a walk, a call, or a simple check-in.

5) Add value (and you’ll always have leverage)
Whether it’s a brand partnership, a job, or a relationship—Kenny leads with two questions: “What’s your initiative this year?” and “How can I add value?”

Try this today: before your next meeting or outreach, make sure you can say this in one line:“I can help you achieve ___ by ___ (so you can avoid ___).”

Quote Highlight

His guiding principle:

“Take care of the little things. That’s where the big change starts.”
